July is the biggest month on the Granbury calendar. The Fourth of July celebration alone draws over 15,000 people to the Square, and the rest of the month keeps pace with live music, theater, lake days, and the kind of summer energy that makes Hood County worth living in. Here are 12 things worth doing this July.

1. Red, White and Celebrate on the Historic Square: July 3 to 5

This is Granbury’s signature summer event, and 2026 is a big one. The theme this year is Red, White and Celebrate: 250 Years, marking America’s 250th birthday on the most historic courthouse square in Texas. The three-day event runs July 3 through 5 and includes the hometown parade with the Dan Coates Family as Grand Marshal, vendors across the Square, a 5K run/walk, live entertainment, and fireworks over Lake Granbury. The parade draws more than 15,000 spectators and runs along the Square. New this year: VIP bleacher seating is available for purchase through the Chamber. Full schedule and details at granburychamber.com.

2. Catch Seger System at Granbury Live: July 3 and 4

Granbury Live opens July with two straight nights of Seger System, one of the best Bob Seger tribute acts around. Both shows start at 7:00 PM on July 3 and 4. VIP tickets are $55, Prime seats are $45. If you are in town for the Fourth of July weekend, this is a natural addition to your evening after the parade or before the fireworks. Granbury Live is at 110 N. Crockett Street on the Square. granburylive.com

3. See Mary Poppins at the Granbury Opera House: July 17 to 26

The Granbury Theatre Company’s summer main stage production is Mary Poppins, running July 17 through 26 at the Historic Granbury Opera House at 133 E. Pearl Street. The GTC consistently puts on productions that would hold up anywhere, and this is one of the most enduring musicals in the Broadway catalog. Shows run Fridays at 7:30 PM, Saturdays at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sundays at 2:00 PM. Tickets and info at granburytheatrecompany.org or call the box office at (817) 579-0952. Tickets sell out. Book ahead.

4. Big Little Town Tribute at Granbury Live: July 10 and 11

The second weekend of July brings two more nights of live music at Granbury Live. Big Little Town, the best Little Big Town tribute, takes the stage July 10, followed by Karen Hester performing as Dolly Parton on July 11. July 10 tickets are $50 VIP / $40 Prime; July 11 is $55 VIP / $45 Prime. Both shows start at 7:00 PM. granburylive.com

5. The Fab 5 Beatles Tribute: July 17 and 18

The third weekend continues at Granbury Live with The Fab 5, running two nights on July 17 and 18. One of the better Beatles tributes in Texas, and the show lands the same weekend Mary Poppins opens at the Opera House, which makes for a strong case for a full Granbury weekend. Both shows are $55 VIP / $45 Prime at 7:00 PM. granburylive.com

6. Larry Gatlin at Granbury Live: July 24

The real standout booking of the month is Larry Gatlin, not a tribute, but the actual Larry Gatlin from the legendary Gatlin Brothers Trio. He performs July 24 at 7:00 PM. VIP is $65, Prime is $55. For anyone who grew up with Texas country, this is a night worth clearing your schedule for. granburylive.com

7. Watch the GTC Summer Youth Performance

The Granbury Theatre Academy’s summer camp wraps up with youth performances at the Historic Granbury Opera House July 20 through 23. This is the Kids Cast production from the camp that ran July 6 through 17. If you have younger kids or grandkids in town, this is a genuinely great way to spend a summer afternoon, and a chance to see local kids do something impressive on one of the best stages in Hood County. Check granburytheatreacademy.org for showtimes and tickets.

8. Get on Lake Granbury Before August

July is prime lake season in Hood County, and Lake Granbury is one of the best kept secrets in North Texas for a summer day on the water. Pontoon rentals, kayaking, and paddleboarding are all available. City Beach and Shanley Park are solid access points. July mornings on the water before the heat peaks are some of the best hours you can spend in Granbury. Get out early, stay as long as you can.

9. Spend a Morning at the Historic Granbury Square

There is no bad time to walk the Square, but July gives you reason to do it deliberately. More than 60 boutiques, specialty shops, restaurants, and bars fill the most historic courthouse square in Texas. The Fourth of July weekend brings extra vendors and activity, but the Square rewards attention on any given Saturday morning regardless of what else is going on. Show up with no agenda and you will find one.

10. Catch the Brazos Drive-In on a Summer Night

The Brazos Drive-In is one of a handful of authentic drive-in theaters still operating in Texas, and July summer nights are exactly what it was built for. Double features run Friday and Saturday nights from May through October. Showtime is just after sunset. Tune your FM radio, bring lawn chairs or stay in the car, and let the evening take its time. Call (817) 573-1311 to check the current schedule before you head out.

11. Support a Local Business You Have Been Meaning to Try

The Fourth of July weekend pulls visitors from across the DFW area into Granbury, which is a good reminder that the local businesses here are worth protecting year-round. If you live in Hood County and have been defaulting to the same handful of places, July is a good month to be more intentional. All About Sports and Awards on Highway 377, 817 Print, The Laser Junky for branded gifts and engraving, Barons Creek Vineyards, or any of the restaurants and boutiques on the Square that you keep walking past. Make the effort this month. The community that makes Granbury worth living in depends on it. #keepgranburylocal

12. Find a Quiet Place to Work Through the Summer

July can be hard to stay productive. The calendar fills up fast, the heat pushes everyone indoors, and working from home starts to feel like working from a sauna.
