October is the month Granbury does best. The heat finally lets go, the Square fills back up with festivals, and both the Opera House and Granbury Live have full calendars. Whether you live in Hood County or you are driving down from Fort Worth for the weekend, here are 12 things worth putting on your calendar this month.

1. Raise a Stein at Oktoberfest on the Square, October 2-4

Oktoberfest takes over the Historic Granbury Square through Sunday, October 4, with local vendors, seasonal brews, live entertainment, and German-inspired fun that includes polka dancing and beer-hoisting contests. If you are reading this on opening weekend, the Square is already full. Bridge and Crockett streets stay closed through 8 p.m. Sunday, so plan to park and walk.

2. Take the Ghosts & Legends Tour, Every Friday and Saturday

October is the right month for it. The one-hour walking tour starts on the Square at 7:00 and 9:15 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and it covers the Lady in Red, the Faceless Girl, and a few outlaws with Granbury ties, Jesse James among them. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for kids 12 and under, and the tour is built for all ages. The later start is the better one once the courthouse lights come on.

3. See Footloose, Then The Great Gatsby, at the Granbury Opera House

The Granbury Theatre Company runs Footloose through October 18, and The Great Gatsby opens October 23 and plays through November 8. The Opera House at 116 S. Houston Street was fully renovated in 2012 and sits a short walk from dinner on the Square, which makes a pre-show meal easy to plan. Check the company’s website for showtimes and tickets.

4. Catch a Tribute Night at Granbury Live

One of the most intimate venues in Texas has a full October. Granbury Live brings Buddy & Beyond on October 9, Texan Fool, a John Mellencamp tribute, on October 10, and IN HALEN, a Van Halen tribute, on October 16. The Ultimate Rod Stewart Experience plays October 17, and the Kansas tribute Know Return takes the stage October 23. Terry McBride of McBride & the Ride plays an acoustic show October 24, and Doug Allen Nash closes the month as Neil Diamond on October 30. Tickets go quickly for the weekend shows.

5. Walk the 20th Annual Corvette Show, October 10

The Brazos River Corvette Club brings its judged show back to the Historic Square on Saturday, October 10, with proceeds going to local charities. You do not have to know a C2 from a C8 to enjoy it. Cars fill the streets around the courthouse, and the shops and restaurants are steps away when you want a break from the sun.

6. Spend the Weekend at the Harvest Moon Festival of the Arts, October 23-25

This is the biggest weekend of the month. The 48th annual Harvest Moon Festival of the Arts fills the Square with artists and artisans from near and far, live music all weekend, and a Masquerade Street Dance. It lands on the same weekend as the opening of The Great Gatsby and two shows at Granbury Live, so if you want to stay overnight, book early.

7. Taste Your Way Through the 50 Fellas Foodfest, October 17

On Saturday, October 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., 50 teams of local cooks serve up appetizers, entrees, and desserts at the Granbury Reunion Grounds, and everyone in the room votes for their favorite. It is a Granbury ISD Education Foundation fundraiser and an adults-only event, so leave the kids with a sitter. Tickets are sold in advance through the district’s Eventbrite page.

8. Shop the Granbury Farm & Artisan Market, Saturdays Through October 31

Every Saturday this month, local growers and makers set up at Hewlett Park, 621 E. Pearl Street. Admission is free, hours vary, and it is an easy way to pick up fall produce and handmade gifts before you head to lunch on the Square.

9. Hear Live Music at Barons Creek Vineyards, Every Friday and Saturday

The Barons Creek tasting room at 115 E. Bridge Street has live music every Friday and Saturday night starting at 6:30 p.m. Pour a glass of Texas wine, grab a seat, and let the evening cool off around you. It pairs well with the Ghosts & Legends Tour if you plan the timing right.

10. Make It a Sunday FUNday on the Square

Sundays on the Square run slower and easier. Shops open by noon and close around 5 p.m., and the restaurants and wineries are open for brunch, lunch, flights, and tastings. It is the best way to see the Square when you do not want to fight Saturday crowds.

11. Walk the Shoreline at Granbury City Beach

One of the best things about Granbury in October is that the lake becomes a place you actually want to be near again. City Beach is a short walk from the Square, and a cooler afternoon is perfect for a slow loop along the water with a coffee in hand. You do not need a boat or a swimsuit to enjoy it.

12. Mark Your Calendar for the Granbury Grand Prix, November 7 and 8

The electric racing festival that was first planned for September is now set for November 7 and 8 on the Historic Square. Gates open at 9:00 a.m. both days, racing starts at noon, and admission is free for everyone. The Workplace is the Official Coworking/Private Office Partner of the Granbury Grand Prix, and Team Workplace will be on the circuit. Put it on the calendar now, and if you are bringing clients or family to town that weekend, a meeting room one block from the Square is a handy home base.

Between the festivals and the shows, there are still workdays to get through. If you need a desk for a day, a room for the team, or a part-time private office that fits your month, The Workplace is one block from the Historic Granbury Square. #keepgranburylocal
