September in Granbury means the heat finally breaks, the Square fills back up in the evenings, and the fall event calendar kicks into gear. Whether you are local or planning a weekend trip to Hood County, here are 12 things worth putting on your calendar this month.
1. Race (or Watch) at the Granbury Grand Prix, September 19 & 20
The biggest new event on the Granbury calendar this year is the Granbury Grand Prix, a two-day electric micromobility racing festival taking over the Historic Square on September 19 and 20. Racers age 10 and up compete across six electric categories, e-scooters, e-karts, e-dirt bikes, e-BMX bikes, e-ATVs, and e-skateboards, with a Vendor Village, Expo Zone, and live entertainment running all weekend. Admission is free for the whole family.

2. Wrap Up Summer at the Labor Day Weekend Festival, September 4-6
The Historic Granbury Merchants Association closes out summer with three days of local vendors, shopping, and live entertainment around the Square. It is the easiest way to spend a long weekend without leaving town, good vibes, good people, and every shop on the Square open late.
3. Hear a Creedence Tribute at Granbury Live, September 4-5
Texas Clearwater Revival brings the Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog to Granbury Live the same weekend as the Labor Day festival, so you can shop the Square by day and catch a show that night.
4. Relive Journey at Granbury Live, September 11-12
Journey of a Lifetime brings a full tribute set to Granbury Live’s stage, one of the most intimate venues in Texas, for two nights in the middle of the month.
5. Catch Terry McBride the Same Weekend as the Grand Prix, September 19
If you are already downtown for the Grand Prix, Terry McBride, lead singer of McBride & the Ride, plays an acoustic set at Granbury Live that same evening. Race day, then a show, all within walking distance.
6. Close Out the Month with Three More Shows on the Square
Granbury Live keeps the momentum going through the last week of September: The Voice, hosted by the Granbury Kiwanis Club, on September 24, a Santana tribute called Soul Sacrifice on September 25, and Texas singer-songwriters Max & Heather Stalling on September 26. 7. Spend a Day at Granbury Lakefest
Granbury Lakefest typically lands in late September at the Lake Granbury Conference Center, a free, family-friendly day of food trucks, a cornhole tournament, a kids’ zone on the City Beach, and live music that runs into the evening. Proceeds benefit Mission Granbury. Keep an eye on the local calendar for the exact date as it gets closer.
8. Shop and Stroll the Historic Granbury Square
With more than 40 shops, boutiques, and restaurants around the courthouse square, September evenings are made for a slow walk downtown once the temperature drops. It is consistently ranked one of the best historic small towns in the country, and it is easy to see why once you are here in person.
9. Catch a Show at the Granbury Opera House
The Granbury Theatre Company runs a full season of plays and musicals out of the historic Opera House on the Square. Check their calendar for what is running in September and grab a pre-show dinner at one of the restaurants a few doors down.
10. Sip Local at Barons Creek Vineyards
Right in the heart of downtown, Barons Creek Vineyards pours Texas wine out of a tasting room with an upstairs loft and art gallery. It is a great way to unwind after a full day on your feet around the Square, or before a Granbury Live show.
11. Two-Step at County Line Icehouse
Granbury’s newest honky-tonk brings a real dance floor and live country music back to Hood County. If you want a proper night out after the sun goes down, this is where September nights in Granbury end up.
12. Step Back in Time at the Hood County Jail & Historical Museum
Housed in an authentic 1885 jail just off the northeast corner of the Square, the museum preserves the original upstairs cells and gallows. It is a quick, air-conditioned stop that gives real texture to Granbury’s history before you head back out to enjoy the rest of the day.
